Drew Horton, University of Minnesota Enology Specialist at the Horticulture Research Center

Everybody knows Napa and Sonoma, but what about the little-known/emerging California wine regions like Santa Barbara, Monterey, Paso Robles, Lake County and the Sierra Foothills? These are areas just coming into their prime and soon these wines will be in higher demand. Your instructor, a former California winemaker and current UofMN enologist will share the inside scoop on how and why these up-and-coming wines will be all the rage. • How regionality and terroir impact the characteristics of a wine
  • Some of the unique qualities that can be found in wines from these regions of California
  • History of the development of vineyards and wineries in these areas
  • Tips and tricks for tasting regional wines
