Williamsburg Pineapple Centerpieces (200-12-09-17)
Saturday, December 9, 10:00 a.m. – Noon (Backup: Saturday, Dec 9, 1:30 – 3:30 pm)

Theresa Mieseler, Arboretum Horticulture and Botanical Workshop Specialist, Retired owner of Shady Acres Herb Farm

Pineapples can be found on doorknockers, in foyers, and on welcome mats… they have been a symbol of hospitality for centuries. Learn more about their history and symbolism, while also making a cheerful centerpiece to greet your holiday dinner guests in style. Theresa will begin with a history of this tradition, straight from Colonial Williamsburg. You will then watch and participate, step by step, as Theresa leads you in creating a beautiful 18th-century centerpiece using fresh evergreens, boxwood, ivy, crabapples, small cones, ribbon and a fresh pineapple. Please bring a pruning shears and a pair of gardening gloves to this session.
SUGGESTED: bring a box to safely bring your creation home
