The Science of Gardening: Soil (150-02-21-15)
Saturday, February 21, 2015, 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Jim Calkins, Research Information Director at Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) and former U of M Horticulture instructor
If you know your soil, you will know your garden and yard and have a greener thumb. Make this your best growing season yet, from the soil up! Work with horticulturist and acclaimed Arboretum instructor Jim Calkins to learn the essentials of the earth in which you grow your plants. You'll be surprised by what you learn and how much you didn’t know. What are the components of soil? What lives in it? What do you need to do to enhance and manage your soil to grow better plants? What about watering, compost, and mulch? Although optional for this class, everyone should have their soil tested; consider having your soil tested prior to class for additional insight. (See testing information and fees online.)
