The Life of the Genius of the English Garden: Gertrude Jekyll (150-04-05-14)
Saturday, April 5, 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Mary H. Meyer, professor and extension horticulturalist, University of Minnesota, http://grasstalk.wordpress.com
Gardeners of all levels strive to achieve the magical and breathtaking cottage garden look of English landscapes. In this class, the true genius of the cottage garden, Gertrude Jekyll, will be brought to life via visual presentation by one of the Arboretum’s finest horticulturists and teachers. Gertrude was legally blind and late in her life when she developed the color schemes we try to copy and use today. The Arboretum will be showcasing Gertrude’s style and color scheme in its annual borders and beds, so although it’s too early in the season to see the results, you will be ready to better appreciate their beauty later, and you might even gain a few insights into how to bring her style and color scheme into your own garden. To see these theories applied Arboretum gardens in bloom, we recommend “The Arboretum Display Garden Up-Close: Gertrude Jekyll from Hot to Cool,” see July 12, below.
Includes Arboretum admission.
