Seed School Two-Day Workshop (150-08-11-17)
Friday, August 11, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. AND Saturday, August 12, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Tim Johnson, Head of Preservation, Seed Savers Exchange
When you save seeds, you are able to preserve a specific type of vegetable, fruit or flower for seasons to come. Not only does this pastime save you money on seed and seedling purchases in the spring, you will be working toward greater genetic diversity in our food system! Join Tim Johnson, Head of Preservation at Seed Savers Exchange, and local Seed Savers Exchange members for a two-day immersion into the world of seed saving. Saturday will include a day with Tim at the Arboretum, discussing seed biology, flower anatomy, and trying your hand at various seed harvesting methods. On Sunday, travel together to see what local seed savers are growing and harvesting firsthand. After the weekend, you will be equipped with a diverse array of vegetable, herb and flower seeds for the spring, basic supplies for seed saving, and an understanding of how to get started in your own backyard! NOTE that there is no food/beverage at the Bee Center, bring your own lunch or purchase lunch at the Arboretum Cafe.
