Floral Arrangement See-and-Learn: Cottage Garden in a Vase a la Gertrude Jekyll (100-07-12-14)
Saturday, July 12, 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Gertrude Jekyll's love for flowers expanded well beyond designs for lush perennial borders. An artist, gardener and craftswoman, Jekyll was also an influential floral designer, bringing her living palette of outdoor blooms indoors. Consistent with her garden designs, her floral arrangements likewise focused on color, texture, and shape. View awe-inspiring images of Jekyll-style arrangements, and then demonstrate how to create such designs as you watch. Learn about the flowers to cut from the garden and consider the painterly technique Jekyll used in creating floral decor for indoors, and then head home with a list of ingredients and techniques to replicate on your own. (This is a perfect pairing with "The Arboretum Display Garden Up-Close: Gertrude Jekyll from Hot to Cool" class offered July 12 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) Note: this class does not include a take-home floral arrangement.
Includes Arboretum admission.
